Your body is in an anabolic state when there are ample amounts of the right foods eaten at the right times throughout the day. If you are only eating enough calories daily to maintain your current weight then your weight and muscle gain will never happen. You have to eat more calories than your body needs to gain muscle. It"s the same concept if you are trying to lose weight you need to cut back on your calories and be at a calorie deficit at the end of the day.
